Philip Johnson is a Professor and Associate Chair in the Department of Information and Computer Sciences at the University of Hawaii. He received B.S. degrees in both Biology and Computer Science from the University of Michigan in 1980, and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Massachusetts in 1990. He is Director of the Collaborative Software Development Laboratory, which pursues research in software engineering, the smart grid, gamification, educational technologies, human-computer interaction, and computer supported cooperative work. Johnson is active in the Hawaii technology community, has co-founded two software startups, and has served on the Board of Directors of several technology companies.
